Of Special Note:
The new $11 million Hermitage Elementary is unique in the sense that the building is the first certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) K-12 building in Hampton Roads. LEED facilities are unique since recyclable materials and energy saving features are incorporated during the construction phase. Keeping this in mind, this project was a learning curve for the contractor in terms of ensuring the construction phase was completed properly and in compliance with LEED building requirements.
