Construction Highlights
Arrowhead Elementary is a prototype plan used by the school division for 13 other elementary schools to include: Christopher Farms, Linkhorn Park, Seatack, New Castle, Bayside, Kempsville Meadows, Woodstock, Hermitage, Three Oaks, Brookwood, Windsor Woods, Newtown and Elementary School 2007-2008.
Construction of the new building next to the old building created a unique and challenging approach.
Interior courtyard, which lets light into the commons area, media center, and several classrooms in the school.
Heavy landscaping on the school grounds.
Nature trail that meanders through the wetlands and along the eastern branch of the Elizabeth River.
Lobby complete with security desk and the latest closed circuit television system.
Health clinic is connected to the main administrative suite.
Commons area wall is curved, allowing more space in the faculty dining area.
Media center and computer lab are connected.
All classrooms have ceiling mounted projectors and pull-down screens instead of TVs.
School is equipped with an art room, music room, and guidance suite.
Of Special Note:
Arrowhead maintains a strong neighborhood recreation league. In support of this, a ball field and concession was included as part of the school construction project.
Other recreation features are a large map of the U.S. on an asphalt play area, playground equipment, and a fenced-in primary play area.
