Construction Highlights
- Arrowhead Elementary is a prototype plan used by the school division for 13 other elementary schools to include: Christopher Farms, Linkhorn Park, Seatack, New Castle, Bayside, Kempsville Meadows, Woodstock, Hermitage, Three Oaks, Brookwood, Windsor Woods, Newtown and Elementary School 2007-2008.
- Construction of the new building next to the old building created a unique and challenging approach.
- Interior courtyard, which lets light into the commons area, media center, and several classrooms in the school.
- Heavy landscaping on the school grounds.
- Nature trail that meanders through the wetlands and along the eastern branch of the Elizabeth River.
- Lobby complete with security desk and the latest closed circuit television system.
- Health clinic is connected to the main administrative suite.
- Commons area wall is curved, allowing more space in the faculty dining area.
- Media center and computer lab are connected.
- All classrooms have ceiling mounted projectors and pull-down screens instead of TVs.
- School is equipped with an art room, music room, and guidance suite.
Of Special Note:
Arrowhead maintains a strong neighborhood recreation league. In support of this, a ball field and concession was included as part of the school construction project.
Other recreation features are a large map of the U.S. on an asphalt play area, playground equipment, and a fenced-in primary play area. |
