Reporting Fraud, Waste & Abuse

VBCPS Fraud Hotline Call 757-263-1303From time to time, every organization experiences employee dishonesty, theft or fraud; Virginia Beach City Public Schools is no exception. Such acts impact the resources of VBCPS and its departments and programs.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is committed to being honest, efficient, effective, and fully accountable to its citizens by eliminating fraud and maintaining a highly ethical environment throughout our organization. The VBCPS Fraud Hotline, coordinated by the Office of Internal Audit, is a fraud reporting mechanism. This program is designed to assist VBCPS employees in preventing and detecting incidents of fraud, waste, and abuse within Virginia Beach City Public Schools. This hotline focuses on dishonest acts by VBCPS employees or its contractors.

Reportable Incidents

  • Theft or misappropriation of VBCPS resources
  • Falsification of official documents or reports
  • Corruption or official misconduct, including misuse of VBCPS information, conflicts of interest, or offering or accepting bribes
  • Conducting personal business on VBCPS time
  • Violations of VBCPS procurement policy or contract fraud
  • Tampering with government records

The Office of Internal Audit does not investigate routine personnel issues such as employee grievances or complaints relating to civil rights, sexual harassment and equal employment. To report routine personnel issues, please call the Office of Employee Relations 757.263.1046.

How to Report

If you have information related to suspected fraud, waste, or abuse within VBCPS operations, please report it to the Office of Internal Audit immediately. You may contact us in a number of ways, depending on what is convenient for you. Please be as specific as possible when describing the situation. Communication with us is confidential.

In person:

Stop by or call the Office of Internal Audit located in Room 208 of the School Administration Building 6. Our phone number is 263-1140. Our office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

By phone:

Call the Fraud Hotline at 263-1303 which can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Voicemail is activated at all times. Please be as specific as possible. Callers may remain anonymous. Caller ID and call back features have been disabled to maintain confidentiality.

By mail:

Prepare a written description of the situation you wish to report and mail it to: Office of Internal Audit, Virginia Beach City Public Schools, 2512 George Mason Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23456-0038. Please be as specific as possible.

By fax:

Prepare a written description of the situation you wish to report and fax it to 263-1284. Please be as specific as possible. Sending personal information by fax and/or email is not a confidential or secure means of communication. If you wish to remain anonymous, we recommend you submit your allegation through regular mail or via the hotline.

By email:
