- On March 20, 2012, the Virginia Beach School Board approved the Building Utilization Committee’s proposed redistricting plan for Areas A, B, C2, C3, and D. The proposed redistricting for Area C1 impacting, Cooke and Seatack elementary schools, has been approved with modifications. The following C1 neighborhoods: Linkhorn Crest Condos, Woodbury Forest Apartments, Salt Meadow Bay Apartments and Condos will remain at Cooke Elementary. The approved redistricting will be implemented with the start of the 2012-2013 school year.
- In accordance with School Board Regulation 5-14.1, upon the realignment of attendance zones by the School Board, rising fifth and eighth grade students, affected by the attendance area changes, shall have the option of continuing in their previously assigned school if the student provides safe and punctual transportation to and from that school.
- The approved redistricting plan is intended to reduce overcrowding due to continued growth in Brookwood, Green Run, and Cooke elementary schools and adjust the attendance zones of Lynnhaven and Virginia Beach middle schools.
- The BUC's approved school redistricting changes supports the school division's plan – Compass to 2015 – by optimizing all resources in support of student success.
