Modified Summer Work Schedule Begins June 22

Beginning Monday, June 22 Virginia Beach City Public Schools' offices, schools, and centers will move to a four-day work week – Monday through Thursday, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. During this eight-week time frame, all buildings will be closed on Fridays. This altered schedule, which has resulted in considerable energy savings in the past, will be in effect through Thursday, August 13. The only exception to this schedule will be during the week of June 29 as a result of the
July 4 holiday that will be observed on Friday, July 3. Due to this Friday holiday, all offices and schools will observe regular hours Monday through Thursday of that week.

On Monday, August 17, all schools, offices, and centers will return to their normal (Monday through Friday) operating hours.

This will be the third consecutive summer the school division will implement a four-day work week as an energy-savings measure.  Based on the outcomes of this initiative over the past two years, it is anticipated the school division will save another $100,000 in energy costs.
