The Virginia Beach School Board recently appointed Tracy A. LaGatta to the post of director of testing for the school system.

In her new position LaGatta will be responsible for coordinating the administration and analysis of the state testing program for Virginia Beach City Public Schools. She succeeds Barry Kavy, who retired after 32 years of service with the school division.

LaGatta began her career in Virginia Beach City Public Schools in 1995 as a teacher at Plaza Middle School. From 2002 to 2005, she served as the school improvement specialist at Kempsville Middle School. In 2005, she joined the Department of Research, Evaluation and Assessment as a testing specialist.
 
LaGatta holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a Masters of Science in education at Old Dominion University.
