Parkman Appointed Principal of Landstown Middle
|
John T. Parkman, principal of the Center for Effective Learning (CEL), has been appointed principal of Landstown Middle School , effective July 1. Parkman was appointed to his new position by the Virginia Beach School Board during its recent meeting. He will replace the current principal of Landstown Middle, Peggy Pebbles, who is retiring from the school division. An educator for more than 23 years, Parkman started his career in 1986 as a teacher at Norview High School in Norfolk, his alma mater. In 1998, he became the school’s dean of students. Parkman left Norview in 2000 to become an assistant principal at Open Campus High School in Virginia Beach. He was appointed interim principal at the school in 2004 and became principal of CEL in 2005. Parkman is a member of several professional organizations, among them the Virginia Beach Association of Secondary School Principals and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He is a graduate of the school division’s leadership development program, Futures Principals Academy, for aspiring principals and assistant principals. Parkman received a Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education from Virginia Wesleyan College and earned a Master of Science degree in secondary school administration from Old Dominion University.
