Old
Donation Center Slated to Host RAD Event

Old Donation Center (ODC) teachers and student volunteers from Bayside High School Health Sciences Academy will welcome first graders and parents from Diamond Springs, Hermitage, and Shelton Park elementary schools to a RAD (Reading, Art, and Dance) day of fun. The event is slated for Saturday, February 28, from 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The purpose of RAD 2009 is twofold: to provide information to parents about the intellectual, visual arts, and dance education programs that ODC offers as well
as to provide them tips and guidelines for assisting in their children’s education. Events are orchestrated so parents and children can enjoy a variety of activities together as well as separately, with children reading and engaging in crafts together while parents participate in workshops and discussions.

A highlight of the day’s activities will be a dance exhibition by ODC dance students. Parents and their children will also have the opportunity to participate in a special “brain dance.” Each family that attends will receive a large Lynnhaven River Now recycling grocery bag, a new children’s book, a booklet and pamphlet from the International Reading Association on reading with your children at home, a school-produced bookmark on tips for reading with children at home, and the crafts that the children create that morning.

This is the second year that ODC has sponsored such an event.

For more information, please contact the Old Donation Center main office at
473-5043.
