In support of the school division’s newly adopted strategic plan, Virginia Beach City Public Schools is undertaking a new initiative, Parent Connection. The first step in this new endeavor is the launch of a new page on the school division Web site, vbschools.com. The Parent Connection page is designed to serve as a virtual clearinghouse for educational materials and information, announcements, and links to community resources.  A key feature is a calendar of local workshops and activities that will help busy parents find opportunities to support their children’s success.

“Our goal is to eventually become a one-stop resource for parents. I would encourage local organizations and agencies to contact us if they are hosting classes, workshops, seminars and special events designed to benefit families. We will review all submissions for inclusion on our Parent Connection calendar. We also are very interested in hearing input from parents as to what other information they would like to see posted,” says Melissa McQuarrie, community relations director for the school system.

McQuarrie notes that in early 2009 the school system will be hosting a large-scale Parent Connection seminar and would welcome ideas for sessions.
