Virginia Beach City Public Schools is hosting an “Open Mic” Session on the proposed Compass to 2015: A Strategic Plan for Student Success on Monday, September 22, from 6-8 p.m. at Tallwood High School. Superintendent James Merrill will provide an overview of the draft plan then accept comment from the audience.

The proposed strategic plan is unique in that it is a direct result of considerable community input. Since work began on the plan last year, the school division has hosted numerous focus groups comprising parents, VBCPS teachers and staff, students, former students, and members of the business, military, and higher education communities. In addition, a Town Hall Meeting was held last April during which stakeholders had the opportunity to further share their perceptions regarding public education and what their priorities and goals are for the school division.

A draft of the proposed strategic plan is available for review on the school division Web site along with the opportunity to provide feedback. The School Board will consider all comments received via the Web and at the Open Mic Session to determine if adjustments need to be made to the draft plan. The School Board is scheduled to adopt Compass 2015: A Strategic Plan for Student Success on Tuesday, October 7.
