Virginia Beach School Board to Appoint Interim Representative to District 7 - Princess Anne Seat

The Virginia Beach School Board is embarking on a process to recruit, interview and eventually appoint a new School Board member to fill the unexpired term of Lyndon Remias. Remias, the Board representative from District 7 - Princess Anne, is resigning effective May 14 to become the city auditor for the City of Virginia Beach. City Council appointed him to this post at its Tuesday, April 22 meeting.

The new School Board representative, who must be a qualified voter residing in District 7 - Princess Anne PDF Document, will serve through December 31, 2008. Following the November 4, 2008, general election, the newly-elected School Board member from District 7 will take office on January 1, 2009, to serve the remaining two years of Mr. Remias’ term.

The School Board invites interested citizens from District 7 to submit an application that includes reasons for interest in School Board service, summary of work experience and public/community service, educational background, past volunteer experience or employment with Virginia Beach City Public Schools or other school systems, evidence of residence and voter registration, and additional qualifications for the position. Applications must be received no later than noon on May 13 in the office of Dianne Alexander, Clerk of the School Board, P.O. Box 6038, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23456-0038. The application can be obtained from the Clerk’s Office or via the school division’s Web site vbschools.com.

On May 20, the School Board will hold a public hearing to receive comments regarding this appointment. The public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. at 2512 George Mason Drive, Building 6, Virginia Beach Municipal Center. Any citizen who desires to speak at this hearing should contact the Clerk of the School Board at 263-1016. The School Board is expected to make an appointment at its June 3 meeting.
