Kindergarten Registration And Open House For 2008-2009 School Year Scheduled
At Elementary Schools

In preparation for the 2008-2009 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools will conduct a parent/pupil kindergarten orientation and registration on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. in all elementary schools with the exception of Newtown, Bettie F. Williams, and Old Donation Center. The kindergarten registration and orientation is for children who will have reached their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2008.

The school district's kindergarten orientation program will provide many informative activities for parents and future students such as tours of the school, classroom visitations, an overview of the kindergarten program, participation in story time, a bus ride, and brief skits. Activities will vary at each school.

Parents may register their child for kindergarten as part of the registration orientation program. School staff will assist parents with the registration process. Parents are asked to bring the following to registration: proof of residence/address (lease agreement and/or gas, electric, or water bills); certified birth certificate; physical examination report (dated within 12 months prior to starting kindergarten); current immunization report; Social Security number; and two emergency contact phone numbers.

Parents can determine their child's assigned school for kindergarten by visiting the School Locator/Map Center available on the school division's Web site, vbschools.com, or they may call their neighborhood school. Detailed registration information, and an overview of the kindergarten program, can be accessed on the Kindergarten Registration page found on the school division's home page.

Kindergarten registration will continue at all elementary schools during regular school office hours throughout the summer. Parents are encouraged to register their child prior to the start of school. The first day of school for the 2008-2009 school year will be Tuesday, September 2. For students attending one of the school division’s four year-round elementary schools (Corporate Landing, Plaza, Point O’View, and Seatack) the first day of school will be Monday, July 21. For more information about kindergarten registration, parents should call their neighborhood school.
