Parents and Students Invited
to Attend Internet Safety Forum

Understanding the importance of Internet/computer safety and concerns that parents may have about protecting their child or children from potentially harmful situations, the school division has scheduled an Internet safety forum with the specific goal of highlighting the safety measures in place in the division’s 87 schools and centers. The Internet safety forum will take place in the auditorium at Landstown High School from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 25. Both parents and students are invited to attend.

In addition to sharing the Internet safety measures in place in the classroom, school division staff, an employee of the Virginia Beach Police Department, and a representative from Cox Communications will cover the following topics: resources parents can use with their home computer; school policies and laws developed to protect students while using the Internet; and industry-wide standards in place for Internet users in school and at home. Following the presentations, there will be an opportunity to ask questions about Internet safety.

In addition to the Internet safety forum, parents and students are encouraged to use the school division’s Web site, vbschools.com, as a resource for computer and Internet safety tips. Visitors to the school division’s Web site will find a comprehensive assortment of topics supporting responsible and safe use of the Internet.
