Corporate
Landing Elementary School has been selected as a 2004-2005 Year-Round
School of Merit by the National Association for Year-Round Education
(NAYRE). This honor was awarded to only ten year-round elementary schools
in the United States and is based upon commitment to improving the educational
experience through the use of a balanced calendar and reducing summer
learning loss. Schools earning this award serve as national role models
for other schools seeking academic excellence through time and learning.
Corporate Landing Elementary principal David B. French believes that
their school’s strong parental involvement and community partnerships
attributed to their school’s recognition of being selected as
a Year-Round School of Merit. “The staff and community’s
commitment to student achievement and year-round education is second
to none. Their dedication to each and every student is evident on a
daily basis, said French.”
Corporate Landing Elementary, one of five year-round elementary schools,
is in its third year of
operating on a year-round calendar and the first Virginia Beach year-round
school to receive this
honor. Virginia Beach City Public Schools implemented its first year-round
elementary school in July
2000. Corporate Landing Elementary School principal David French
will accept this award during the
annual NAYRE conference in San Diego, California, February 6, 2005.
