Conference for National Board Certified Teachers Organized An idea by Kempsville High School teacher Karen Shinn that would bring together teachers from across Hampton Roads certified through the National Board Certification process for a day of talking, listening, and planning has grown from drawing board to reality. The first ever Tidewater National Board Certified Teachers Conference will be held at the Holiday Inn-Sunspree on Saturday, May 18. The daylong program will open at 9 a.m. with a general session involving area political and business leaders. State delegates Robert Tata and Terri Suit are scheduled to speak. After lunch, Shinn and Shelly Deneau, both National Board Certified Teachers with Virginia Beach City Public Schools, will guide the region's certified teachers through special sessions aimed at enhancing the National Board Certification process across southside Hampton Roads.
