for 2002-2003 School Year Scheduled at Elementary Schools The school district's kindergarten orientation program will provide many informative activities for parents and future students such as tours of the school, classroom visitations, an explanation of the kindergarten program, participation in story time, a bus ride, and brief skits. Activities will vary at each school. Parents will be encouraged to complete a "Kindergarten Readiness Checklist-Parent's Rating" in order to provide important information to help teachers learn about their new students. Parents may register their child for kindergarten as part of the registration orientation program. School staff will assist parents with the registration process. A checklist of items needed for registration includes the following: proof of residence/address; certified birth certificate; physical examination report; current immunization report; Social Security Number; and two emergency contact phone numbers. To determine your child's assigned school for kindergarten, please visit the "School Locator/Map Center" available on the school division's Web site - - www.vbschools.com -- or call your neighborhood school. Detailed registration information can be accessed on the "Student Registration" page found on the school division's home page. Kindergarten registration will continue at all elementary schools during regular school office hours between now and August 15, 2002. Parents are encouraged to register their child prior to the start of school. For more information about kindergarten registration, please call your neighborhood school or the office of the superintendents for elementary education at 427-4398. |
