ATC Open House Preview Showcases Curricula
and Choices for Students

Rising eleventh- and twelfth-grade students should mark their calendars for March 14th, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This is when Advanced Technology Center staff members will unveil their cutting edge curricula specifically designed for students with a deep interest in and talent for technology-oriented courses. Because the ATC facility itself is still under construction, the Open House Preview will be held at Landstown High School, which is directly across the street from the new Center.

According to Patrick Konopnicki, director of the Office of Technical and Career Education, the ATC will offer students the opportunity to choose
a course of study unique in its focus on technology and the seamless transition it provides between high school, postgraduate study, and/or the workforce. Students will not only be able to earn industry certification for some courses such as the Computer Network Administrator program (CNA), but they also have the option of choosing dual enrollment courses for which they can earn college credit. Coupled with mentorships, internships, and work-study programs, the curriculum fulfills a myriad of academic needs
for students.

Current ninth-, tenth-, and eleventh-grade students were sent an informational packet containing a brochure and application for the ATC, although only rising tenth and eleventh graders are eligible to apply for next year. Students must apply to the ATC and be accepted in order to attend. Criteria for acceptance are listed on the application, which is due to guidance counselors by, March 29th. Students will be notified in mid-April regarding their acceptance. Should more students apply than there are places, they will be put on a waiting list.

Students attend the ATC for one part of the school day and their home schools for the other. Transportation will be provided for all students who
are accepted.
