Virginia Beach City Public Schools' Web Site
Launches College Scholarship Interactive Feature

Virginia Beach City Public Schools' Web site www.vbschools.com is unveiling a new interactive feature - Scholarship Central - for high school students that will ultimately provide them access to hundreds of scholarships for post-secondary education. Starting on Thursday, February 28, 2002, high school seniors will be able to go online via the school division's Web site, search for a scholarship, and print the corresponding application. This will provide students the flexibility to view specific information pertaining to various scholarships at home, in school, or while visiting their local library branch.

Scholarship Central maximizes resources and streamlines the search process by combining scholarships historically available at each high school to one centralized location. This means students will have access to the same scholarship information, regardless of their high school. Of special interest, students will be able to conveniently print the corresponding application, while searching for a scholarship. Students can expect to see the database updated on a weekly basis in order to provide access to current scholarships.

While students may reduce the number of visits to their school's scholarship coordinator, they are encouraged to notify them if they are awarded a scholarship. Last year Virginia Beach City Public Schools' Class of 2001 accepted $12.3 million dollars worth of scholarships.

To access Scholarship Central simply click on the "Class of 2002" button on the home page. For additional information contact Marcella Whitson, coordinator of guidance and student records at 757.263.2010 or e-mail at scholars@vbschools.com.
