VBCPS Diversity Group Celebrates Black History Month In honor of Black History Month, the Virginia Beach City Public Schools' Diversity Task Force will host "Our Country, Our History, The Legacy of Us All.........Voices of a Proud People." The combined program and public forum, which will focus on the history of African Americans, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 28 at Plaza Middle School. The school is located at 3080 South Lynnhaven Road. The program will begin with a colloquium on the contributions and history of African Americans. Several residents of the African American community will share their personal success stories. They include Dr. Edward Boston, a physician; Reginald Cole, vice president, Dan Rivers, Inc.; Chief Petty Officer Capus Peterson, U.S. Navy; and Senior Torpedo Chief Marvin McNeil, U.S. Navy. Entertainment and refreshments will follow their presentations. At 8 p.m. participants will have an opportunity to discuss diversity issues and share experiences with staff and members of the Diversity Task Force in a forum setting. Parents, citizens, school employees, students and Virginia Beach residents who represent all races and backgrounds are encouraged to attend and express any comments or concerns regarding diversity-related issues that may occur in Virginia Beach City Public Schools.
