Black History Month In honor of Black History Month, the Virginia Beach City Public Schools' Diversity Task Force will host "Our Country, Our History, The Legacy of Us All.........Voices of a Proud People." The combined program and public forum, which will focus on the history of African Americans, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 28 at Plaza Middle School. The school is located at 3080 South Lynnhaven Road. The program will begin with a colloquium on the contributions and history of African Americans. Several residents of the African American community will share their personal success stories. They include Dr. Edward Boston, a physician; Reginald Cole, vice president, Dan Rivers, Inc.; Chief Petty Officer Capus Peterson, U.S. Navy; and Senior Torpedo Chief Marvin McNeil, U.S. Navy. Entertainment and refreshments will follow their presentations. At 8 p.m. participants will have an opportunity to discuss diversity issues and share experiences with staff and members of the Diversity Task Force in a forum setting. Parents, citizens, school employees, students and Virginia Beach residents who represent all races and backgrounds are encouraged to attend and express any comments or concerns regarding diversity-related issues that may occur in Virginia Beach City Public Schools.
