Truck Brings 18,000 Pounds of Food to High School

A tractor trailer carrying 18,000 pounds of food and gifts will arrive at Landstown High School to kick-off the second annual "A Helping Hand
for the Winter Holidays" at 2:20 p.m. on Monday, December 17.

The project, a joint effort between Landstown and Operation Blessing, was organized to help feed needy families over the winter holidays. School organizations have been busy fund-raising to help support the school-wide community service project.

Students and staff members will unload the truck and re-pack the merchandise into 1,500 gift bags. Each gift bag will contain various packaged foods; and a holiday video, CD and a stuffed toy. For 300 of the neediest recipients, Operation Blessing will add wool blankets.

The gifts will be picked up Virginia Beach City Public Schools and departments from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday for
distribution to needy families in their communities.

On Friday, December 21, 2001, local churches are invited to pick-up remaining gift bags. The school continues to solicit cash donations
to pay for the food and gifts.

To reserve a gift bag contact information contact Janice Rogowski, 468-3800.
