by VBCPS Superintendent Tim Jenney The Virginia State PTA recently awarded to Dr. Timothy R. Jenney, Virginia Beach Public Schools superintendent, the PTA President's award at its 96th Annual Convention Banquet held in Williamsburg, Virginia. The President's Award is the highest award bestowed by the Virginia PTA and is granted to individuals who have given outstanding service to children. In receiving this award, Dr. Jenney is cited as one who has promoted children's well being by serving as an advocate for children in such areas as education, health, safety, and legislation. The Virginia PTA President's Award was presented to Jenney by Sue Glasco, Virginia PTA President. This was the only honorary award presented this year at the state convention. Glasco remarked "Tim Jenney was selected to receive this award as an acknowledgement of his dedication and commitment to PTA as well as for his assistance and support during my tenure as state president. Dr. Jenney consistently puts children first in all educational matters." The Virginia PTA is an organization of more than 406,000 members and is extremely active in its mission of advocacy for children. The local Virginia Beach Council of PTAs works closely with Virginia Beach City Public Schools to coordinate the Volunteers in Education Program, which includes Golden Circle and Junior Volunteers in Education. For more information, please contact Sue Glasco, Virginia PTA Immediate Past President, at Ocean Lakes Elementary School, 721-4000. |
