Virginia Beach Schools to Issue School Report Cards

In keeping with its commitment of accountability to the community, Virginia Beach City Public Schools will release its fourth annual School Report Cards November 14, 2001.They will include demographic data, SOL spring unadjusted test results, and other important statistical information such as attendance, PTA membership, percent of students passing and the overall level of satisfaction with the schools as rated by students, parents and teachers. In most cases, comparative data is provided for the 1998-1999, 1999-2000, and 2000-2001 school years, so that parents and interested citizens can monitor progress and change, and assess a school's strengths and weaknesses.

The report cards have been prepared for each of the city's 85 schools with the exception of the Center for Effective Learning, Virginia Beach Central Academy, the Adult Learning Center, Open Campus High School, the Technical and Career Education Center, and Landstown High School (which, as a new school, has not yet generated the data needed to create a report card). Individual schools will mail their report cards to parents of middle and high school students, while elementary students will hand-carry them home. In addition, a special supplement to the Virginian-Pilot on Sunday, December 2, will contain a report card for every school in the division except the above-mentioned six schools. Report cards for all schools can also be found on the division's website at www.vbschools.com.
