National Association of Student Councils Seeking Host Families
for 2002 National Conference at Ocean Lakes High School
With preparations well underway for the 66th National Association of Student Councils (NASC) National Conference to be held in Virginia Beach, conference organizers are seeking volunteers to serve as host families for approximately 1,500 student delegates from across the United States. The Conference Planning Council is currently looking for 500 host families to help house student leaders while attending the annual conference scheduled June 26 through 30, 2002 at Ocean Lakes High School.
Host families will typically house a minimum of two students and will be responsible for providing food, a safe environment, and adult supervision in the home during the course of the five-day conference. Virginia Beach City Public Schools' buses will provide transportation for students to and from the conference based on proximity to Ocean Lakes High. Host families are expected to participate in at least one NASC housing committee meeting and must submit a "Host Family Application" for review and approval.
Ocean Lakes High School will be the first high school in Virginia to host this national gathering of student leaders for the 2002 conference. Conference attendees for this annual
event hail from all fifty states and several foreign countries. Three years ago, Virginia Beach
City Public Schools competed against other school districts from across the nation to serve
as host to this prestigious annual national student leadership conference. NASC is administered by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), and offers leadership development opportunities at its conferences, focusing on training student leaders for lifelong service to their community and nation.
If you are interested in serving as a host family please call 721-4110 ext.7510, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. To learn more about Virginia Beach City Public Schools' involvement with the 2002 NASC Conference, contact National Conference Co-chairmen Daniel Keever, Ocean Lakes High School at 757-721-7831 or Diane Anderson, Laskin Road Annex, 757.263.2030.
