Lynnhaven Elementary Will Host Groundbreaking

Lynnhaven Elementary School will host a ceremony to break ground for a building modernization project.

The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18 on the school grounds. Lynnhaven is located at 210 Dillon Drive.

Linda S. Hayes, school principal, will be the mistress of ceremonies for the event. Other participants include Dr. Tim Jenney, superintendent of Virginia Beach City Public Schools; and Dan Edwards, chairman of the Virginia Beach School Board.

From the modernization project, Lynnhaven will gain 28,892 square feet of additional construction for new structural amenities to include eight classrooms; a media center; a dining area, stage, and kitchen; administration suite expansion; teacher dining space; restrooms; and sprinkler, heating and air conditioning systems. Site improvements will include additional staff parking; a new student drop-off loop; and an enclosed courtyard with a teaching amphitheater.

The project will also renovate 51,954 square feet of existing areas. These areas will include upgraded plumbing in existing classrooms and office areas; transformed heating and air conditioning units in existing classrooms wings; and other improvements.

Lynnhaven's modernization project is a part of a series of structural modernizations, renovations and new building replacements occurring at schools identified as the oldest structures of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools.
