The Virginia Beach Public Schools Education Foundation announces its recent appointment of two new members to the Board of Directors. Dan Ryan, president of Dan Ryan's for Men, an apparel store located for more than 25 years in the Hilltop area of Virginia Beach, will specialize in working with the Lead and Advance Gifts subcommittee in addition to his other Board commitments. The Education Foundation is currently in the midst of a major fundraising campaign with a goal of raising $400,000. Ryan has long been active in the community and is chairman of the Neptune Festival, a member of the Board of Directors for both the Virginia Marine Science Museum and Towne Bank as well as a member of the Virginia Beach Rotary Club. Also named to the Foundation Board was Charles Cortellini, chief operating officer of First Colony Coffee & Tea. Cortellini, in addition to his other Board duties, will work with the Finance subcommittee. Community volunteering is an avocation for Cortellini. He serves as a coach for youth athletics, specifically baseball, football, and basketball, in the Great Neck area of Virginia Beach and is also on the Board of Directors for the Louise Eggleston Center in Norfolk.The Virginia Beach Public Schools Education Foundation was originally founded in 1992 as an adjunct to the Office of Technical and Career Education. Now committed to serving the entire school division, grades kindergarten through 12, the Foundation's mission is to raise private sector support to reward excellence and fund innovative, creative education programs to benefit students, teachers, and staff of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools.
