Virginia Beach Superintendent James G. Merrill will present a proposed operating budget for the next fiscal year to the School Board on Tuesday, Feb. 7. The proposal, known formally as the Superintendent’s Estimate of Needs (SEON), will outline strategies for making $39.3 million in cuts.
Dr. Merrill’s presentation will be aired live on VBTV-Channel 47 and streamed live on vbschools.com. The formal meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. However, the School Board will hear several agenda items before the superintendent makes his presentation. Video of the meeting will be archived on vbschools.com the following day. Meetings also replay on VBTV channel 47 at the following times: Mondays at 2 p.m., Wednesdays at 7 p.m., and Saturdays at 9 a.m.
In addition, a special budget page called The Lowdown on Your School Dollars will be updated and go live, soon after the superintendent’s presentation. This page will also serve as a resource for the FY 2012-2013 budget process. Lowdown on Your School Dollars will include the following: an overview of the budget; superintendent's presentation and accompanying script; Proposed Capital Improvement Plan (CIP); and answers to anticipated questions about the budget. Visitors to this page will also have the opportunity to leave comments about the school division's budget.
