INSTRUCTION
Homebound Instruction
Homebound instruction will be provided for the student who is unable to attend public school because of a physical or emotional disability for an anticipated twenty (20) school days or more.
1. Application for homebound instruction will be only for the current school year or for the time designated by the physician.
2. Referrals for homebound instruction will be made to the Office of Exceptional Children by the principal. Referrals will include the necessary documentation.
3. All requests for homebound instruction will be processed by the Office of Exceptional Children.
4. If the request is approved, the Office of Exceptional Children will assign qualified teachers.
5. Children enrolled in a public elementary school and receiving homebound instruction will remain on the class roll and will be counted present. Secondary students will remain on the class roll for those subjects covered in the homebound instruction and will be counted present.
6. Girls of school age who because of pregnancy are unable to attend a public school are eligible for homebound instruction. The inability of an individual to attend school because of pregnancy will be attested to by a competent physician on forms provided by the office of the homebound coordinator.
7. Girls of school age who because of pregnancy wish to attend Thalia Center for Pregnant Teens may request this option. Attendance at Thalia Center is classified as homebound instruction.
8. Students who are suspended out of school pending an expulsion or long-term suspension may be provided homebound instruction if the discipline hearing is not held within ten (10) days. If the student appeals a decision to the disciplinary committee and/or to the full School Board, the student will not be eligible for homebound instruction while the appeal is taking place.
9. Grades earned under homebound instruction will be reported to the student's regular school by the Office of Exceptional Children. It will be the responsibility of the school to accept and record grades earned in the homebound program on the student's cumulative record.
