INSTRUCTION
Testing and Assessment
A. Testing
1. Standardized Tests
Standardized tests required by the state through the Virginia State Assessment Program will be administered. Additional standardized testing will be administered as deemed necessary by the Division Superintendent.
2. Standardized Test Results
Standardized test results will be analyzed to determine indications of program strengths and weaknesses. Students' individual test results will be reported to their parent or legal guardian. Citywide test results will be released to the media through the Department of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment at the direction of the Division Superintendent.
3. Objective-Referenced Tests
Objective-referenced tests will be developed locally to assess student progress with the approved curriculum. The results of such testing will be used to analyze the effectiveness of the instructional program division-wide and for each individual school.
4. Unauthorized Testing
Any scheduling of testing other than testing authorized as a part of the school division's assessment program will be approved by the Department of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment.
B. Instructional Programs
1. All new programs will include an assessment component administered by the Department of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment .
2. All existing programs will be assessed through ongoing formal and/or informal processes.
C. Staff Development
Staff members will be trained in test administration, interpretation of test data, and the use of varied assessment strategies.
