School Board of the City of Virginia Beach
Regulation 6-73.1
INSTRUCTION
Testing and Assessment
Standardized tests required by the Virginia Board of Education through the Virginia State Assessment Program will be administered. Additional standardized testing will be administered as deemed necessary by the Superintendent.
Standardized test results will be analyzed to determine indications of program strengths and weaknesses. Students' individual test results will be reported to adult students or minor students’ parents/legal guardians. Citywide test results will be released to the media through the Department of Educational Leadership and Assessment at the discretion of the Superintendent.
Objective-referenced tests will be developed locally to assess student progress with the approved curriculum. The results of such testing will be used to analyze the effectiveness of the instructional program division-wide and for each individual school.
Any scheduling of testing, other than testing authorized as a part of the School Division's assessment program, will be approved by the Department of Educational Leadership and Assessment.
Staff members will be trained in test administration, interpretation of test data, and the use of varied assessment strategies.
