STUDENTS

Admission Requirements: Social Security/Identification (ID) Numbers/Street Addresses

A. Social Security Number

1. Generally

Within ninety days of his/her initial enrollment in the school division each student shall present a federal social security number. This information shall be entered on the student's cumulative file.

2. Exemptions

In those instances where Social Security Administration guidelines determine a student ineligible to obtain a social security number the principal, acting as a Superintendent's designee, may waive this requirement.

B. Identification Number (ID)

In those instances where Social Security Administration guidelines determine a student is ineligible to obtain a social security number or parental permission to use the number has not been obtained an identification number will be assigned by the school division. This number must be unique to the student, be included in the student's cumulative file and must follow the student through his or her public school career in Virginia. Once a number is assigned to a student it cannot be changed.

C. Street Addresses

Documents submitted to the school division for the admission of any child shall include the street address, the route number or a post office box for each pupil.
