Salary Adjustments for Acting Pay

Definition. Acting Pay is compensation provided to an employee who temporarily assumes the duties and responsibilities of a position of a higher pay grade on the Unified Salary Scale. Acting Pay differs from substitute pay in that the individual receiving Acting Pay is a full-time employee who has assumed the duties and responsibilities of a position on an interim basis, while retaining few of the duties and responsibilities associated with his/her own position.

A. General Guidelines
Acting Pay is provided to individuals under the following conditions:
1. Employee is performing the duties and responsibilities of a position of a higher pay class or grade, and
2. The incumbent of said position is on extended leave, and
3. The incumbent of said position is expected to be absent from his/her position for 30 consecutive calendar days.
4. The period of time that an individual can receive acting pay is not to exceed six months.
B. Authorization
Authorization for Acting Pay must be granted by the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources at the written request of the building principal or department head.

C. Compensation Levels for Acting Pay
Employees receiving Acting Pay will receive an allowance as follows:

Level 1:     Employee acting in a position in grade 5 through 9 earns an additional $65 per pay period;
Level 2:     Employee acting in a position in grade 10 through 12 earns an additional $75 per pay period;
Level 3:     Employee acting in a position in grade 13 through 16 earns an additional $85 per pay period;
Level 4:     Employee acting in a position in grade 17 through 20 earns an additional $100 per pay period;
Level 5:     Employee acting in a position in grade 21 through 24 earns an additional $125 per pay period.
