Assistant Principals

A.  Appointment

Assistant principals shall be appointed by the school board on the joint recommendation of the principal with whom the individual must work, and the superintendent of schools. Such recommendation for appointment is to be made through the superintendent of schools to the school board.

Assistant principals are appointed annually with the beginning and ending dates of employment as set by the school board.

B.  Duties and Responsibilities

Building principals shall be responsible for developing and maintaining appropriate job descriptions for those positions within their respective buildings.

C.  Authority in Absence of Principal

Assistant principals shall, in the absence of the principal, assume responsibility for the operation of the school, make any necessary emergency decisions involving students, teachers, or other personnel, and shall act as the executive officer of the school. When there is more than one assistant principal in a school the principal shall designate the one who shall act as the executive officer in his or her absence.
