SCHOOL BOARD BYLAWS

Composition/Election/Term of Office

A. Composition

The School Board of the City of Virginia Beach shall consist of eleven (11) members elected as set forth in Virginia Code §22.1-57.3 and §§16.02 and 16.04 of the Charter of the City of Virginia Beach.

B. Election

The members of the School Board shall be elected by the qualified voters of the city as set forth in the legal reference below.
Every two years, there shall be a general election in November for the election of School Board members to replace those whose terms expire at the end of December of a given election year.

C. Term of Office

The members of the School Board elected as specified below in the legal reference, §§16.02 and 16.04 of the Charter of Virginia Beach, shall be elected for a term of four (4) years. The term for each elected member shall commence on the first day of January next following the date of election. School Board members whose terms expire as of June 30, 2008 or June 30, 2010, shall continue in office until their successors have been elected at the November election and take office on January 1.
