SCHOOL BOARD BYLAWS

Conflict of Interests/Immunity/Disclosure Statement of Personal Interests/Economic Advisory Interests

A. Conflict of Interests

Each School Board member shall be aware of the State and Local Government Conflict of Interests Act cited in the legal reference to this bylaw and shall disclose such interests to the Board and shall either participate or refrain from participating in votes and transactions as required by the Act.

B. Conflict of Interest Advisory Legal Opinion

Board members are encouraged in a timely manner to seek a written advisory legal opinion from the Commonwealth Attorney or City Attorney in situations where they perceive a conflict of interest as provided by Virginia Code Section 2.2-3121. The request for a written advisory legal opinion from the City Attorney may be requested through Board Legal Counsel, should include full disclosure of the facts, and may be provided without notice to the Chairman or other Board members.

C. Statement of Economic Interests

Board members are advised that they are required by Virginia Code Section 2.2-3115, both as a condition of assuming office and annually, thereafter, by January 15th, to file with the Board Clerk, a disclosure statement of their personal interests as is specified on the form set forth in Virginia Code Section 2.2-3117 titled "Statement of Economic Interests."

D. Employment of Relatives

School board members are advised that the Virginia Conflict of Interest Act contains a specific prohibition of employment of relatives of school board members as more particularly set forth in Virginia Code Section 2.2-3119 set forth below as a legal reference.

E. Immunity

Each Board member shall enjoy such immunity as set forth in the following legal reference.
