A Celebration of Service
The Department of Human Resources recently sponsored its annual celebration honoring employees who are marking 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 years of service with Virginia Beach Schools. Always a festive occasion, this year’s program held February 29 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, commemorated the service of 283 employees. Honorees, invited guests, and administrators enjoyed a reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by a sit-down dinner beginning at 7 p.m. Dr. James G. Merrill, superintendent, was the keynote speaker and the evening’s program was emceed by Department of Human Resources assistant superintendent John Mirra.
Incredibly, the service award honorees share among them 8,080 years of service! Of the employees recognized, 156 marked 25 years with the school division; 69 celebrated 30 years; 45, thirty-five years; 10, forty years; and three, an amazing 45 years! For many attendees, the event served as an opportunity to visit with friends and reconnect with former co-workers. Honorees comprised a cross section of employee groups, ranging from teachers, bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers and administrators to specialists, coordinators, supervisors and managers, technicians and craftsmen, associates and assistants.
Singled out for special recognition were the employees who share a remarkable record of service, 40 and 45 years with Virginia Beach Schools. Join us in congratulating each of them for attaining this significant milestone.
