Windsor Oaks Elementary third-grade teachers Corinne Cornwell, Mary Justis, and Deana Hubbell participated on the Wellness and Prevention Team during the Heart Walk for the American Heart Association at Mt. Trashmore Park.

"Pinwheels for Peace"
Fairfield Elementary is promoting peace through character education. Peace Pinwheels created by first through fifth graders were on display on Fairfield Elementary School's front lawn on Monday, September 21. This coincided with the National Day of Peace. Pinwheels were created in art class in collaboration with art teacher Jennifer Mazur and guidance counselor Carrie Bosseler. The focus was on teambuilding and positive character building.

Several VBCPS psychology teachers attended the summer meeting of the Eastern Conference of the Teachers of Psychology hosted by James Madison University. Pictured left to right are Andy Filipowicz (Ocean Lakes), Marjorie Cole (Kellam), Dr. David Myers, author of the AP Psychology book used by VBCPS students, and Kevin Denson (Kempsville). Cole had the opportunity to present a favorite teaching activity for Dr. Myers.
Coach Lauren Tucei, Kempsville High School’s Girls’ Varsity Soccer Coach, was the recipient of the Virginia High School Coaches Association 2009 Girls' Soccer, Beach District, Eastern Region, and State Coach of the Year. Coach Tucei’s varsity girls’ soccer team had a tremendous season finishing the year as state semifinalists.
Missy Sullivan, gifted resource teacher and drama club sponsor at Kempsville High School, played the role of "Eleanor Roosevelt” in the production of LADIES FIRST by Robert Gerlach and James McDonald. This comedy was the opener at The Little Theatre of Norfolk for the 2009-2010 season.
Alanton Elementary second-grade teacher Kendra Randolph helps Steve Somers with the school’s Accelerated Reader kickoff, "Saddle Up and Read,” by acting out the part of a princess. Somers is founder of Amazing Productions which provides educational programs for schools and libraries.
To kick off its 2009-10 Accelerated Reader program, Alanton Elementary third-grade teacher Donna Kovalcheck performs on stage with Steve Somers, founder of Amazing Productions, a company that produces educational presentations for schools and libraries to motivate and inspire students.
Landstown High School's choral director Martha Springstead was recently selected as the District 2 Choral Music Teacher of the Year for 2010. She was selected by her peers within District 2 which includes schools in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and the Eastern Shore.
Rosemont Elementary Title I teachers hosted an open house for parents on September 30 at the school.
Rosemont Elementary students enjoyed a visit from Master Cielo of King Tiger Martial Arts on September 25. Cielo talked with the students about bullying and how to deal with and prevent it.
