Virginia Beach student brings home gold medals

As the world watches the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, there is one Virginia Beach Middle School eighth-grade student who recently garnered his very own Olympic gold. However, it’s his winning spirit during a particularly challenging year that makes this gold medalist a true champion. Read.

Pre-K eligibility sessions begin Feb. 20

Virginia Beach City Public Schools offers a pre-kindergarten program for children who will be 4 years old on or before Sept. 30, and who meet eligibility criteria. To apply for VBCPS pre-k, families should attend one of 14 eligibility sessions offered through June 5. Read.

Point out the positive when your teen struggles

Positive reinforcement can motivate teens and keep them working when they are having a tough time. But sometimes it can be hard to know what to say. Teens recognize false praise, so try to focus on something your student has done right. You might use a phrase such as, "That was a good try," or "The assignment is tough, but I know you'll get it." If your teen continues to struggle, let the teacher know. Read more here.
