MINUTES OF SCHOOL BOARD SPECIAL MEETING

NOVEMBER 13, 2007

The School Board of the City of Virginia Beach held a special meeting Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at the School Administration Building.

MEMBERS PRESENT:

Chairman Edwards called the special meeting to order at 6:08 p.m. and announced the purpose of the special meeting was for the Board to consider a request for a hearing before the School Board regarding the Findings of Fact and Recommendation made by a fact finding panel on September 25, 2007 for Grievance Case #436-07-13-07.

It was requested the hearing be in an open meeting. The Court Reporter then swore in any person who would be testifying during the hearing.

After the Chairman explained the procedures for the hearing, the grievant’s attorney requested a continuance be granted and explained he had just been retained by the grievant the day before after the resignation of the previous attorney, and did not feel adequately prepared to proceed. Legal Counsel for the School Board argued that based on Board action taken November 7, 2007 denying the grievant’s request for a continuance, and after providing appropriate notice to the grievant, Administration was prepared to move forward.

Following further discussion, the continuance was granted and a new Board hearing date was set for November 27, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the School Administration Building.

There being no further business before the Board, Chairman Edwards adjourned the special meeting at 6:36 p.m.
