Interns (Volunteer), Various Summer School Sites
Current VBCPS
teachers only
Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) seeks currently
employed teachers to serve as summer school volunteer administrative
interns. Candidates should possess
administrative aspirations and demonstrate the desire to participate in
purposeful leadership experiences at a summer school site. Interns must hold, or be near completion
of, a degree in an educational administration graduate program. The volunteer administrative internship
affords teachers opportunities to earn license renewal points, to develop
leadership skills, and to assist with summer school administrative
functions. Administrative interns work
under the supervision of building principals and assistant principals and
serve approximately 4 hours daily from June 20 through August 8. Participation is restricted to
non-probationary teachers employed under a VBCPS continuing contract. Volunteer interns must attend a
training/orientation seminar, serve a minimum of 125 hours, and engage in
mentor/mentee activities. Futures Principals’

Development Team
Lead/Project Manager, Department of Technology, U21 The Department of Technology is looking for an experienced
candidate to function as a development team lead. Candidates must have business process
re-engineering experience, the ability to lead and motivate a team of
developers, a thorough knowledge of the software development life-cycle, and
demonstrate extensive analysis experience and skills. Candidates must
demonstrate the ability to coordinate project deliverables of multiple
simultaneous projects and demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, direct daily supervision of

prioritization of tasks, code reviewing, and training. The Team Lead will be responsible for tracking
the status of projects, serving as a main point-of-contact between DOT and
other departments, and leading the development of projects. A background in Student Information Systems

communication skills; a thorough knowledge of policies, regulations, national
standards, Standards of Quality (SOQ), Standards of Accreditation (SOA),
Standards of Learning (SOL) and SOL Assessment at the elementary level;
in-depth knowledge of current research, trends, and best practice in
elementary education; knowledge of curriculum design and development
(specifically the Understanding by Design model), effective reading
strategies for primary and upper
elementary schools, inclusionary practices, staff development, instructional
and assessment strategies; and the ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with associates, school personnel, state
department officials, and the general public.
Responsibilities include providing instructional support services to
elementary schools, supervising and facilitating interdisciplinary teams of
elementary coordinators and specialists, and providing direction for
curriculum design/development, textbook adoption, and professional
