Substitute Orientation Information Sessions
Information and Requirements

Teaching and Non-Teaching Positions

All substitute applicants are required to complete a Virginia Beach City Public Schools' employment application and attend an orientation/training session.

Details for specific employment categories are as follows:

Substitute CLASSIFIED employee categories include:

  1. Clerical
  2. Teacher Assistants (General, Kindergarten, Special Ed., P.E., Security)
  3. Nurses
  4. Interpreters

Substitute TEACHER employee categories include:

  1. Substitute Teachers
  2. Homebound Instruction
  3. SOL Tutors

Substitute orientation/training sessions will last approximately 4 hours. The time will be 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

ALL substitutes will be required to complete information for background investigations. These include:

  1. Virginia State Police fingerprint check and FBI fingerprint check.
  2. Social Services Child Protective Services Registry background check.
  3. Tuberculosis test or screening within the last 12 months.

ALL substitutes will need documents verifying identity and work authorization or eligibility in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act. Only ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS PDF Document will be accepted.

Substitute TEACHER paperwork will be complete for submission to the Department of Human Resources as soon as 2 of your online references reads RETURNED and you have completed the online TeacherInsight interview/survey which will be e mailed to you.

CUSTODIAN APPLICANTS: Please contact the Office of Custodial Services at 757.263.2600 for specific instructions and to register for the next available orientation session.

FOOD SERVICES SUBSTITUTE APPLICANTS: Please contact the Department of Food Services at 757.263.1101 for specific instructions and to register for the next available orientation session.
