Helpful Tips for Parents to Parents to Follow Regarding MRSA
As a parent, you can also be an active partner in preventing the spread of MRSA by practicing these guidelines:
Encourage hand washing before eating and after toileting.
Clean wounds and cover them with a clean, dry bandage. Wounds that do not heal properly need medical attention.
Be sure your family members use antibiotics properly. Take all that are prescribed, even if the symptoms stop before the prescription is used up. Do not share prescriptions.
Encourage children who participate in sporting events – both in school and outside of school -- to wash their hands after each practice and game. They should not share personal equipment, uniforms, towels, or other personal items (e.g., razors). Uniforms and towels should be washed with hot water and detergent after each use.
Clean contaminated surfaces using an EPA-registered cleaner or bleach solution
(1 part bleach to 9 parts water).
If you suspect your child has an infection that may need medical attention, please contact your personal physician.
