Health Insurance for Children

Did you know that an estimated 1 in 11 students in Virginia do not have health insurance?  Even more staggering, it is estimated that 1 in 7 students are currently without health insurance in Virginia Beach.  Facing this reality, Virginia Beach City Public Schools is proud to continue a partnership between Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System and the City of Virginia Beach’s Department of Human Services.  Recognizing the important link between health, wellness, and learning; a partnership has been formed to enroll students without insurance in Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) in FAMIS, Virginia’s health insurance program for children.

Through this joint effort, Bon Secours will be providing an outreach coordinator who will be employed by the Department of Human Services to work in various schools throughout the division to assist parents and process applications for enrollment in FAMIS.  For more information about this service, please contact your school nurse or school social worker for a referral, or call Ms. Angel Choate in the Department of Human Services at 757.437.3610.
