Health and Wellness

  • The quest for more whole grain products for increased nutrient content and fiber continues…
This  year we are striving to offer at least one whole grain product each day on the elementary and secondary menu.   Examples of our whole grain products include the hamburger bun, chicken, rice & cheese burrito, chicken & cheese quesadilla, pretzel rods, fresh baked rolls and even our fresh baked cookies will be whole grain.
  • Other new products include:   Pillsbury Mini Pancakes, Pancake Sandwich, Smuckers Snack & Waffle, Pollock Fish Wedge, Mrs. T’s Pierogies, Turkey Bacon
  • We have been successful baking all our potato products in elementary schools last year.  Two new potato products will be introduced this year; the McCain Deli Roasters and a 4oz. Baked Potato.  These new products will not only be offered in elementary schools but secondary schools, too.
  • More snack and beverage products which meet the Virginia Action of Healthy Kids guidelines will be offered.  These items include:  Yoo Hoo Fudge Ice Cream Bar, G2, Fruit 66, Cheezit-Scrabble, RF Doritos Spicy Sweet Chili, Munchies Flamin’ Hot Backpack Mix, Quakers Munchi Kids Mix, MJM Sport Bites

Sustainability – Going Green

  • We are doing our part in conserving resources for our children’s future.  Everyone is encourages to visit LUNCH MENUS at www.vbschools.com to access menus, brochures, wellness news, nutrition information, news articles, food allergy information and much more.

Breakfast in the Classroom

  • We recognize breakfast is the most important meal of the day and our Breakfast in the Classroom program keeps growing.  This year we are adding Brandon Middle school to our other 21 schools serving breakfast in the classroom.
