Effective immediately, all VBCPS employees are required to receive their paychecks using direct deposit through their local bank or credit union.
Thousands of school division employees are taking advantage of the ease and convenience of direct deposit. Currently, 91% of our employees use direct deposit to receive their pay. Throughout the next few months, ALL school division employees will be required to make the transition to have their paychecks directly deposited into a bank or credit union. If you do not use direct deposit, the information on this page will assist you with converting your paycheck to direct deposit.
How Does Direct Deposit Work?
When the payroll is processed, employee pay is electronically dispersed into the bank or credit union employees have authorized as their direct deposit source. Funds are available in the savings or checking account at that bank or credit union on payday.
How Does Direct Deposit Benefit ME?
Using direct deposit is safe, easy, and efficient. No more racing to the bank to cash your check! Your money is safe and secure and available to you on payday with no delay – electronically deposited into whichever bank or credit union YOU choose.
How Does Direct Deposit Benefit VBCPS?
By minimizing risk.
In the past, to make “live” checks available on payday on inclement weather days, employees from each school or department were required to make extraordinary efforts to man their workplaces so that employees could pick up their “live” paychecks. This situation put our employees in harm’s way-both the employees who were required to get to work to distribute “live” checks and the employees who navigated icy roads to pick up their “live” checks.
Also, direct deposit saves money because eventually, less printing will be required. At present, direct deposit users receive a semi-monthly “statement only” paper document on payday. It looks just like a paycheck stub, and includes all of the same information. In the future, an option to access paystub information online using the Employee Self Service (ESS) program will be available as an option to employees who currently receive these paper statements. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves…
How Do I Sign Up for Direct Deposit?
It’s fast and it’s easy.
- Decide which bank or credit union savings or checking account in which you want your pay deposited– it’s YOUR CHOICE.
- Complete and sign the Direct Deposit Authorization Agreement Form found on the Intranet (go to Forms, Business Services, Direct Deposit Authorization Agreement Form). Your school/office should have a supply of these forms on hand as well. Please be sure to attach a voided check for direct deposit into your checking account or a deposit slip for your savings account.
- Deliver or submit the form to the VBCPS Payroll Department at the School Administration Building as soon as possible.
