Frequently Asked Questions

Will distance learning ultimately take the place of a live teacher?
No. The primary function of this project is to afford students opportunities they wouldn't have otherwise.

Will student achievement be affected as a result of being at a distant site?
As a matter of fact, studies show that students at the remote sites don't score higher or lower than the live site students. Rather, they perform the same.

Who is managing classroom control and monitoring the security of the equipment at the sites?
A teacher's assistant serves as the Distance Learning moderator. He/she is responsible for overseeing the students, as well as collecting and distributing work provided by the teacher.

Where do students have access to Distance Learning?
All 11 high schools, 11 middle schools, and the Advanced Technology Center have Distance Learning labs.

Who is the contact person at the school system if I want more information about this project?
Bruce B. Harrison, Distance Learning Coordinator. Phone: 757.263.1100 E-mail: bruceb.harrison@vbschools.com.
