Virtual Virginia Beach e-Learning (VVBe)
School Year 2011-2012

Only the following classes are being offered during the 2011-2012 school year through the Virtual Virginia Beach e-Learning program. This year, 9th and 10th grade students may enroll in one online class that can be counted as part of the standard course load, and 10th and 11th graders may enroll in up to two online courses that can be counted as part of the standard course load (Regulation 5-26.1 of the School Board of the City of Virginia Beach). Students may apply for a waiver, at their home school, to have their hours of face-to-face attendance altered.Students interested in taking an online class during the 2011-2012 school year should contact their guidance counselor at their home school for information about registration and prerequisites. The school will make the FINAL decision as to whether the student should take the online course. Registration for online courses during the regular school year is accomplished by the guidance counselor, not using an online interface as during summer school.

Please note these important aspects of taking courses online:

  • Online courses require different skills and learning styles from traditional, face-to-face courses.  For instance, students in an online course are responsible for scheduling their own "class time." Online students need to be very focused and very disciplined. Please explore the link on this website called, “Is Online Learning for Me?”
  • Online courses conform to the regular school calendar. Teachers establish due dates for assignments and tests throughout the course. Online courses are NOT independent study and are NOT completed according to the student’s personal timetable.
  • All online course offerings are dependent on sufficient enrollment and the availability of qualified and appropriately endorsed instructional staff. Even the courses listed below may not actually run if too few students sign up for them and enrollments will be very limited.
  • Online classes must be taken for credit: NO Audits.
  • All online courses address the same content as their traditional face-to-face versions but are delivered over the Internet through a learning management system. This requires a computer at home and a high-speed internet connection. Please see the link on this website to “Minimum Computer Requirements.”

The table below indicates the anticipated offerings and eligibility for each course.
