"Choosing to be a part of the Academy was one of the best decisions of my life and was something that really gave me the opportunity for a bright and prosperous future."
                                                      Brittany Denig

I was a member of the Visual & Performing Arts Academy’s first graduating class of 2008. While attending the Academy, I studied violin in the Instrumental Strand. I feel that the Academy prepared me for life outside of high school by offering and fully providing an environment that encouraged my passion for music and performance. In doing so, the Academy also provided me the opportunity to continue on in music while in college. Because the Visual and Performing Arts Academy equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge of music as well as encouraging some independency, the transition from high school to college was fairly easy. I also feel that one of the reasons the transition was fairly simple is because the Academy presented a mature environment that inspired us to work hard and encouraged success.

My future goals are to continue pursuing my major in Music Performance as well as a minor in Psychology, to find more ways to give back to the Academy program, to continue performing in my string quartet and small ensembles, and to one day be a part of a major symphony orchestra.

To anyone considering the Visual and Performing Arts Academy at Salem High, this program is truly special. The Academy faculty genuinely care and have a passion for what they are doing. Choosing to be a part of the Academy was one of the best decisions of my life and was something that really gave me the opportunity for a bright and prosperous future. If you are looking for somewhere to develop your skills whether they are in acting, or art, or chorus, or instrumental, or even dance, the Academy is definitely the place. It is a place with caring individuals and devoted faculty that you will quickly consider family.
