"Landstown made it a top priority to not only prepare us to graduate, but to take conquer challenges experienced through our postsecondary endeavors."
                                         Jennifer Vaziralli

Even as a timid eighth grader, I knew I was capable of achieving more in my academic career. My experiences taken from the Technology Academy at Landstown High School helped me realize that success.  I felt welcome at the school from the moment I brought my application to Landstown High administrators. From the start, Landstown High presented itself as a place where students were encouraged to take responsibility for their coursework and determine their success.  I was involved in several sports and activities including: varsity cheerleading, debate, student council, and DECA. The Technology Academy provided a combination of rigorous coursework, exciting classroom activities, and passionate teachers.  They did an excellent job of making academy students feel recognized for their achievements.  This sense of accomplishment was coupled with a real high school experience by interaction with non-academy members through general study courses.

During my four years in the Academy I pursued the Entrepreneurship Technology strand with a concentration in marketing coursework.  Following my high school graduation, I served as the International DECA president – an opportunity I pursued. Subsequently, I was selected as a result of the support and experiences while a student at Landstown High’s Technology Academy.  In this role, I traveled the world, making presentations and learning even more about businesses, before starting my freshman year at Virginia Tech.  My academic performance at Virginia Tech was aided by the knowledge gained both inside and outside of the classrooms of Landstown High.  Diversity was truly valued and teachers recognized that alternative learning techniques aided in making the classroom environment fun and exciting.

The tremendous support I received from faculty and staff is a pivotal reason I achieved such success during and after high school.  Landstown High made it a top priority to not only prepare us to graduate, but to conquer postsecondary challenges as well.

In December 2008, I graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelors in Science in Human Resource Management and a Bachelors in Science in Marketing Management and will be pursuing a career in consulting.  Both my peers and the faculty at the Technology Academy will always serve as a support system and a home away from home.  It is through my experiences at Landstown High that I developed not only as a student, but as a person.
