The Health Science Academy at Bayside High prepared me in many different ways to be successful after high school. There is so much I learned while attending the Health and Science Academy that many of my peers at Longwood University are learning for the first time. While studying with my peers or helping others study, I always have a random fact to share with my peers about how it relates to the body. I owe this knowledge to my former Health Science Academy teachers. When others ask what a medical word means, I find myself running back in time to break down the word to figure out its meaning. It's funny to hear my college Biology teacher explain slowly and repeatedly that "somatic" and "body" cells are the same thing. This was day- one material taught in the Health Science Academy.

For any student interested in the medical field, I HIGHLY recommend the Health Science Academy. Having graduated from the Health Sciences Academy, I now realize there was so much information we were taught in the high school level that was actually college level. This works to your advantage, especially in first-year college biology, chemistry, and any medical course.

The material may seem intimidating to those considering the Health Science Academy, but all of the teachers are more than willing to help students. I did not have the best study skills in high school. However, I graduated with good grades thanks to the Health Science Academy teachers who encouraged me to develop important study skills and ensured my test-taking abilities yielded positive results.

Not only did the Health Sciences Academy prepare me for college, but it prepared me for the real world as well. Everyone at Bayside High School played important roles in helping me receive my full scholarship. I am ahead in all of my classes because I've seen information as a freshman in high school that my teaching assistants haven't even seen in graduate school! Besides the priceless relationships and friendships I formed, the education I received is something that I am most grateful for. My teachers were awesome and the opportunities available to me were endless. Without the Academy, I don't know if I would be where I am today.

If I could do it all over again, I would undoubtedly choose Bayside High! The Health Sciences Academy introduces students to material that will not only get them into Medical School, but propel them in their careers as well. Students are granted chances to go on clinical rotations with expert physicians and health care providers. Students are also encouraged to engage in internships, something that most kids don't experience until their third year in college. Students enjoy hands on training and develop very personal relationships with teachers and peers. I built bonds with people that I now consider family as well as my best friends. The Health Sciences Academy provides students the opportunity to learn in smaller class settings(trust me they beat the lectures in college). And, like we always say, "once a Marlin, always a Marlin."
