"In the International Baccalaureate Program, students receive a breadth and depth of understanding in many subjects, unique to this curriculum." Sarah Williamson |
"When she grows up", Sarah Williamson wants to be the first female U.S. president – really! And, given her record of achievement thus far, her goal may not be simply a dream! As a recent Princess Anne High School International Baccalaureate (IB) graduate, she entered UVA with a total of 59 credits under her belt, earned during high school through successfully passing stringent Advanced Placement and IB exams. Doing so exempted her from having to take lower level courses in college. Although technically a junior, Sarah says she will spend four years at UVA pursuing coursework in the classics – Latin and Greek – as well as in political science. According to Sarah, the combination of academics, community action and service, and overall scholarship inherent in the IB Program are her keys to success at UVA.

"The International Baccalaureate Program taught me how to manage my academic and personal obligations, how to establish priorities and allocate time to get everything done." Eugene Hunter |

Eugene Hunter came to Princess Anne's International Baccalaureate (IB) Program in his junior year of high school. However, he found he was totally prepared for the demands and rigor of the courses because he had been enrolled in a pre-IB program in Las Vegas where he lived before moving to Virginia Beach. As Eugene puts it, "Pre-IB and IB curricula push you to do more than you realize you can do, not only in terms of academics but also in extracurricular and service opportunities. For example, I enrolled in a Taekwondo course as a way to fulfill CAS (Creativity, Action, and Service) requirements for IB. I reached the brown belt level in a very short time and I know this was possible only because of the focus and concentration skills I had acquired through the pre-IB and IB programs." At Cornell, Eugene continues to put his skills to good use as he pursues his dream of becoming an industrial psychologist.
