Welcome to the Office of Programs for Exceptional Children’s Self-Advocacy video -- Speak Up, Speak Up For Yourself -- which serves as a practical guide for students, parents, and special educators regarding the process of transitioning from high school to college. Making the transition from high school to college is not easy. However, with careful planning, the process can be managed so that students will be successful. This 10-minute video provides an overview of the process students with disabilities may want to follow as they prepare for the independence and new experiences of college life. Among the many challenges faced by students as they make the transition from high school to post-graduate education is learning to take personal responsibility for their decisions. Another is learning how to locate and request assistance should they need it. Speak Up, Speak Up For Yourself addresses some of these typical concerns and offers suggestions for dealing with the following issues:
